Welcome back Milano fam, we are here yet again with the answer to your problems! This time we’ll be talking about how to clean those tiles floors. Yes, they look beautiful when they’re newly installed and the house help does a pretty good job to clean them on a daily basis but after a while no matter how much you clean them or mop them the floors still look dirty? That happens because of grout, now grout is a cement-based mixture that bonds the tile together. The grout darkens overtime because it absorbs the dirt and it makes the room look dirty which is otherwise clean.
While tile floors are durable and easy to maintain, but dust and grit can scratch the surface if not removed on time and we don’t want scratches on those beautiful looking floors, right? When you mop your floors, that dirty mop water can get pushed into the grout and once the water dries, the dirt is left behind to absorb into the grout. Now there are ways around it, you could get a darker grout to get rid of this problem or you could call the professional cleaning services and they could do your job for you.
But if you happen to have a lighter grout like almost every house here in Pakistan, and want an inexpensive but an effective way to clean your floors we got you.
Bleach:
Mix bleach with water 1:2 and put the solution in a spray bottle, now apply them on the darkened grout lines. Let the solution sit for at least 30-45 minutes, the longer the better, but you can change the time according to how dirty the floor is. Now once the solution has soaked in you can use an old tooth brush to scrub those lines. Once the area is clean you can rinse it with water and the dry it with a cloth or a towel. And finally, when the floor has dried put on a grout sealant on those lines.
Tip: Use a color safe bleach for this.
Clean stains:
If the grout does not need any cleaning and only the tiles have stained, try to figure out what caused the stain and the remove the stain accordingly, with a stain remover. Unnecessary scrubbing will scratch the floors.
Do not air-dry the tiles:
Its very common here in Pakistan, while doing everyday chores we tend to mop the floors and then let them air dry. Do not do this as the sitting water will form water spots. Take care of that by drying the floor with a clean lint-free cloth immediately after moping.
Vinegar and dish soap:
Fill a bucket with hot water, a half cup of vinegar and a half tablespoon of dish soap. Mix and then mop the floors with this solution. Once you’re done make sure you mop it with plain hot water. After that dry it with a towel or a clean cloth to remove even more dirt and prevent water spot.
